OBECTIVES: After today's lesson students should be able to...
- solve problems using dimensional analysis (DA)
- interconvert metric units using DA or "sliding the decimal
- commit metric prefixes to memory as listed on today's handout: nano (n-) - Giga (G-)
CLASS LESSON
- Students should take out assignment from last day. Lead students to make a "mind map" of the units for the Prima Numero worksheet. Use this (and point to it frequently) while students solve problems on the board [see below]
- Grade "The Digitatsu of Prima Numero" ... the invented units - in class. Have students solve problems on the board. Write only equivalent expressions ... no need to actually produce the final answer as a single number.
- Demonstrate Metric Units and their conversions and equivalency's on the board.
- Identify pre-fixes that students should memorize and know: Giga-Mega-kilo-[standards: s, m, g, L]-deci-centi-milli-micro-nano
- Assign Dimensional Analysis of Metric Units worksheet.
- Students work on assigned work in class.
- Remind students:
- Review is next period in class (Wednesday).
- Summative paper test on last class this week (Thursday).
- Reflection will be due next Monday. Reflection is podcast this time; we will go over that on Wednesday or Thursday this week.
